There are more chickens than any other farmed animal on the planet.

There are more chickens than any other farmed animal on the planet. Their suffering on intensive farms continues to be widely exposed, yet the free-range broiler industry has been relatively hidden from scrutiny. Until now…

Animal Justice Project spent three months inside free-range and so-called ‘high welfare’ broiler chicken farms. Our findings are heart-breaking and disturbing and are a shocking reminder that you cannot trust The RSPCA, Red Tractor, the government or the supermarkets when it comes to protecting animals.

We filmed never-seen-before footage of chickens being caught for slaughter inside an RSPCA Assured farmed, plus every other step in their lives. Chicks were thrown, kicked and left to suffer. They had their necks snapped on feed lines or left to die for up to eight hours, writhing in agony. A worker urinated inside the sheds multiple times and in a bucket, before throwing a conscious bird into it hours later. The catching teams threw birds so hard they were pushed back out of the crates, whilst swearing and shouting at the vulnerable birds. We found a disturbingly long list of abuses at these farms. You can see more in our investigation video below:

Our findings have highlighted the reality for ‘free-range’ and ‘high welfare’ chickens in the UK. Whether factory-farmed, free-range or organic, we can guarantee it is 100% Harm Assured! Our investigation has been featured in the Daily Mail, the Daily Mirror and the Independent, and many more!

So what next?

We brought our findings directly to the industry bosses in London! Our 100% Harm Assured demonstration on the 4th of July was held outside the Royal Garden Hotel which was hosting the National Egg and Poultry Awards. Awards for those who profit from the more than one billion chickens exploited for their bodies each year and killed at just 5-9 weeks old. Gifted for killing more chickens than ever before, for exploiting them in unimaginable ways and being responsible for endless and needless suffering…

Our demonstration was a huge success! Over 40 activists joined us to speak up for the vulnerable and the exploited. As well as reaching the industry bosses we were in direct contact with members of the public, educating them on The Foul Truth. We debuted our fantastic mascot, Lucy! Lucy was custom-built based off a chicken we found during our investigation. The chicken was stuck on their back, unable to move. Left to suffer by the workers. By The RSPCA. By Red Tractor. By so-called ‘high welfare’ and ‘free range’ standards. Lucy will be the face of those who lose their lives every day.

A huge thank you to everyone who has joined us and supported us during our launch! We have much more to come, with new parts of the campaign coming out most months up until Christmas!
