An undercover investigation by Animal Justice Project inside C&K Meats, Suffolk. The horrors found inside this slaughterhouse reflects those of the entire industry: pigs being beaten, death and legal breaches. Our society cannot progress whilst such facilities exist. In February 2024, Animal Justice Project commissioned a YouGov poll to find out what the British public really knows about the egg industry. Unsurprisingly we found that most egg consumers were 'in the dark' about the Rotten reality of what happens to hens on egg farms and were being misled by 'happy hen' free-range marketing. Harper Farm, in Leeds, is owned by BFREPA Director, Jack Stephenson and was one of the farms investigated in our cage-free exposé. They supply eggs directly to Sainsbury’s and to James Potter Eggs who supply eggs to Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Co-op. What we uncovered was nothing short of a nightmare.

In our investigation into free-range farms we found terrible conditions at Sherriff’s Wood Eggs, in Wales, is this 'family farm' of BFREPA Director, Pauline Jones. They supply eggs directly to Stonegate, a major supplier of own-label eggs to the likes of Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Ocado.
