Last summer, we conducted a two-month investigation at a Delamere Dairy farm. The company is one of the UK’s largest goat dairies and produces one-third of the UK’s goat’s milk. Stocked in major supermarkets like Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Co-op and Tesco, their ‘award-winning’ products are well-known. They are also sold by Suma Wholefoods, a vegetarian cooperative, that values 'ethical' products.
The farm we investigated was located in North Yorkshire and holds over 2,000 goats. It is owned by the Milk Goat Association’s Director, a key player in the ‘goat world’.
Our harrowing findings included day-old kids being killed in front of other nanny goats, painful lameness and a zero-grazing system whereby the goats could never venture outside.
After multiple online rallies to get Suma’s attention and many months of emails, I am thrilled to say that as of 1st May, all Delamere Dairy products will be wiped from Suma’s stock. Many of you joined our actions and emailed Suma, so THANK YOU! You are the reason why this campaign was a success and another win for the animals.
Not only is Suma ditching Delamere products, but also many other dairy products. This is because they will now only stock Soil Association organic dairy products. Animals will still be exploited on these farms, but this change has resulted in fewer dairy products being sold by Suma; we are pushing them towards an entirely plant-based catalogue.
“This means that in fact from 1st May 2023, all Delamere products will be discontinued, alongside a number of other brands.” - The Suma team.
I hope that this year I can keep bringing you positive news like this, but I know that it will take a lot of fierce campaigning. With you by our side, we can create waves across the animal farming industry.
As always,
For the animals.
