August and September have been incredibly busy and rewarding months for us at Animal Justice Project!
In August, we kicked off our powerful Cage-Free Isn’t Cruelty-Free Week of Action, which made a real impact both online and on the streets. With 21 dedicated teams leading their own outreach events, we handed out an impressive 15,000 pieces of literature, reaching countless people with our message. Together, we educated the public about the dark realities of the egg industry and encouraged them to rethink their consumer choices. It was an inspiring and impactful week!
We launched our latest undercover investigation into C&K Meats, an RSPCA Assured pig slaughterhouse in Suffolk. You will have seen by now how horrific our findings were.
The investigation shocked the nation as it was featured in four national papers: Mirror, Independent, Mail Online and the Express. Thousands, if not millions, of people have been reached with the horrifying scenes inside C&K slaughterhouse. No level of so-called 'welfare assurance' will ever protect pigs, and especially not inside a slaughterhouse. The Food Standards Agency failed to carry out an investigation, despite many alleged legal breaches and clear, violent abuse, reflecting the authority’s systemic failure at ‘protecting’ animals.
Over 14,000 people have signed our petition to the UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, demanding an end to the public funding of slaughterhouses, and a further 1,700 have emailed their MPs to support the campaign.
In September, we teamed up with SPECIESISM.WTF for a powerful collaboration that made waves. Together, we unveiled an eye-opening art installation in Birmingham called The Human Farrowing Crate, which left bystanders shocked and speechless. We also had a digital advertising van driving around the city showing our investigation content, reaching approximately 37,000 people. This was just the first in a series of four bold events designed to create empathy for pigs by putting humans in the same restrictive and cruel conditions. We also began filming our gripping new short film, AKIN /a’kin/, and continued to ramp up pressure on UK MPs through persistent lobbying efforts. Our campaigning efforts were even featured in print in Ethical Consumer Magazine.
