It is time to take a stand for the hens suffering in the egg industry. Will you join us during our nationwide week of action?
From August 5th, we will be speaking out for chickens. The week will be packed with actions to take, creative and informative posts to share, and exciting outreach events across the UK over the weekend promoting an egg-free and plant-based lifestyle.
Please get in touch with us directly if you’d like a FREE action pack to host a stall in your area to help inform the public about the egg industry's atrocities. The more cities that host stalls, the more people we can convince to change their consumer habits. You can join our Facebook event here.
*Note - the deadline to request an action pack has now passed.
If you are unable to host a stall, would you consider door-dropping our leaflets instead? They are available here for free, but please only order them if you will use them.
Our action packs are just the starting point for your event, there are several ways to make your event more visually impressive and impactful. We encourage you to add more elements into your event and to get creative while still keeping the focus on our campaign. Here are some of our recommendations that will help take your event to the next level. We have broken them down into actions to take before the event, elements you can incorporate during the event and follow up actions you can take afterwards to maximise the success of your event.
Advertise widely: In addition to advertising the event on your page, reach out to other local activist groups and encourage them to share your event and get involved. Sharing the event with local vegan community groups on Facebook will also help increase its visibility and attract new people. You can even add it into your local activism messaging chats on Messenger, Telegram and WhatsApp.
Location: Set up at a location with great footfall to maximise the number of people who engage with you. Consider a street with intersecting flows of passersby in a busy shopping area. Decide on this ahead of time, and have a backup option in place should someone else be in your chosen spot on the day or if weather is bad.
Purchase Animal Justice project merchandise: This will help make your event look more professional and create a sense of uniformity with the other cities participating in the action week. It also sends a very clear message about who we are speaking for. You can purchase our clothing here. We have a special discount for activists taking part on our baseball caps: BASEBALL15
Incorporate food outreach: Start by reaching out to suppliers and vegan brands ahead of your event and ask for free samples for your outreach. We recommend samples of cupcakes to demonstrate how tasty eggless cakes are. An incentive such as this will encourage the public to engage with you.
Get creative: A costume will help draw in a crowd and will be especially eye-catching for young children and their families, who would be more likely to approach you if the event appears family-friendly. Hats and plush toys could also be used to similar effect. In this, we encourage you to be creative to entice the public into speaking with you. Give them more reasons to approach you.
Bring a speaker: Music can help attract an audience and lighten the mood, creating a better atmosphere in the streets. It can also help ease any tension bystanders might be feeling and make them more receptive to outreach. It also makes the event appear more fun and interactive.
Play footage: Having a TV screen set up and ready-to-play footage for those engaged with the content could help convince them further. We have several videos highlighting our investigation footage that would be appropriate for this. You could bring a set of headphones and encourage the public to listen to the videos too. You could even offer them an extra cake if they make it to the end.
Photography: Capture your event by taking lots of photos and sharing them online and in local community groups. If your event looks visually impressive, this will help demonstrate its success and attract people to future ones. Include a positive conversation you or one of your volunteers had in the write-up post. Remember to send your photos to us so we can use them to show how fantastic your event was on our own social media platforms. Remember to tag us in across social media platforms so that we can re-post your content!
Record your conversations: If you have a confident outreacher in your group, record their conversations with the public to highlight the effectiveness of directly targeting consumers. Any particular positive and transformative conversations can then be shared online to demonstrate the success of the event.
Follow your event with a social: Visiting a local vegan café or restaurant after your event allows you and your team to reflect on your conversations while they are still fresh in everyone's mind. It also helps bring your team together and builds a community of like-minded people ready to do activism again in the future.
Write a press release: You can contact local news publications directly and send them photos from your event and a description of what it was about and when it happened. There’s no guarantee they will publish a story about you, but getting creative with your event and taking good-quality photos will increase your chances of success. We recommend listening to Nathan McGovern’s talk from the Vegan and Animal Rights Conference if you're interested in writing a press release.
Door-drop any leftover leaflets: There are many ways to improve your event and make it more impactful. One final thing is to use any leaflets you may have left over; you could drop them in your local area or leave them in community centres and encourage even more people to engage with our campaign content. Don’t let them go to waste because every leaflet has the potential to create change.
The campaigns team from Animal Justice Project are excited to announce an exclusive event in Cambridge. We are bringing a special educational tool, a unique creation that we have had specially made. This visually impressive addition to our event is not something you want to miss. If you want to be part of this exciting outreach, join us in Cambridge on the day!
If you do not use Facebook, here's the full list of actions happening:
We have four pre-written X posts for you to use. These are educational, highlighting our investigations and the significant failings of the RSPCA Assured scheme. It's crucial that we show the public that cage-free certainly does not mean cruelty-free. Let’s show them that this entire industry is Rotten and needs to be abolished.
Our investigations have revealed The Foul Truth about the egg industry. For many years, we have been exposing the horrors inside RSPCA Assured and Red Tractor-approved hatcheries and farms. We have investigated so many farms, and the evidence has been compiled to prove that this entire industry is rotten!
There is no escaping this fact, and it is a point we want you to focus on during your outreach. Our imagery reflects the entire industry, an industry that needs to go. It does not matter what marketing labels are used, the birds are all met with the same horrific fate. Cage-free, certainly, does not mean cruelty-free.
Indeed, there is no such thing as an ethical egg. We need your help to bring this truth to the streets and inform the public of these crucial facts. We hope that you will take part in our nationwide action week because only together can we create change, only together can we get justice for the billions of hens trapped in this industry.
As alwayfor the animals!
