Last month, our team travelled to the sunny shores of Brighton to do our first-ever Freshers tour!
Over three jam-packed days we hosted outreach stalls at the University of Brighton (Eastbourne and Falmer campuses) and the University of Sussex.
We spoke to hundreds of students about our campaign, Rotten, which is exposing all levels of so-called ‘welfare’ in the UK egg industry.
Enticed to visit our stall by delicious free vegan cakes - kindly donated by Just Love, we had so many positive conversations with students who were shocked and appalled at the reality of the way that egg-laying hens live in the UK.
Our ‘Eggspectation vs Reality’ video which was playing on a loop on our stall showed footage of the way that both enriched cage and free-range hens are imprisoned in the UK. Students couldn’t believe that the cramped conditions we showed them were free-range!
The Just Love vegan cakes went down a storm - we gave out over 600 samples and couldn’t keep up with the demand! One student even said “It tastes just like real cake!”
Many of the students we spoke to were ‘flexitarian’ or vegetarian and planning to go vegan. We gave them our Go Eggless leaflet which featured eggless swaps they could buy in supermarkets and directed them to additional resources to help them go vegan.
All the materials we used on the tour, including our Rotten A5 booklet and our Go Eggless leaflet will be available to order on our website in the next couple of weeks for your own egg outreach events!
Outreach events like this allow us to expose the truth about these rotten industries to the public, whilst encouraging them to make a kinder choice and go vegan. Any support you can give - whether supporting our campaigns by donating or just sharing our content, help us on our mission to fight injustice and create a better world for animals.
Your help is greatly appreciated and is already making a huge difference.
As always,
For the animals.
