With five investigations, two campaign launches, direct action and more, 2024 was a busy year at Animal Justice Project.

What a year! 2024 was one of Animal Justice Project's most impactful years to date, and we couldn't have done it without your ongoing dedication to animal liberation. Over 12 months, we released five undercover investigations, held national actions, launched new campaigns, and conducted our first-ever supermarket sit-in and open rescue!

Here are the highlights of our powerful campaigning for animals in 2024, and take a look at the video below for our year in review.

Digital adverts inside universities

In January, we launched digital adverts across ten universities, highlighting the Rotten truth behind the UK egg industry. The ads reached 250,000 people over two weeks. We attended the universities to speak directly with the students, who were shocked after learning how misleading marketing led them to believe that there is such a thing as an 'ethical' egg.

Seven RSPCA Assured egg farms exposed

Across two launches, we carried out an industry-wide exposé, highlighting RSPCA Assured 'free-range' egg farms across England, Scotland and Wales for the first time. The shocking footage of suffering and dead hens, as well as trapped and injured birds, shocked the nation as it hit national media outlets. Even the so-called 'highest welfare' hens, whose eggs are supplied to the likes of M&S and The Happy Egg Co, were found in deplorable conditions.

RSPCA Assured 'broiler' hatchery investigation

The inner workings of UK hatcheries have never been seen before, so we planted an undercover worker inside an RSPCA Assured hatchery. Although this hatchery produced 'broiler' chicks for fattening, we filmed numerous live chicks being thrown into a giant macerator, an abhorrent machine usually linked with egg-laying hen hatcheries; the day-old birds were shredded alive. The clear disregard for the chicks' lives was apparent, and the main goal was to hit the target of sending out hundreds of thousands of tiny chicks.

Egg myth billboards & National Week of Action

We reached an estimated 1.4 million consumers on the streets of London, Bristol, Nottingham, Birmingham and Hove with more truths about egg farming. Highlighting issues like the killing of day-old male chicks, the billboards sent a clear message that no eggs can ever be 'ethical'. Alongside the billboards, we hosted a Week of Action all about eggs. Over 20 groups participated in an impactful week for hens nationwide.

RSPCA Assured campaign launch

Following five years of campaigning against the façade of RSPCA Assured, we launched a campaign to pressure the RSPCA to end their assurance scheme. We've previously uncovered horrors within pig transport, slower-growing chicken farms, pig slaughter, and a 'broiler' chicken hatchery, all certified by the assurance scheme. We've led the way in showing how labels like this are designed to make the consumer feel better about eating animal products and that the animals will never benefit. We protested outside of their Head Office alongside over 100 dedicated animal advocates. We will continue campaigning until we see the end to this absurd scheme.

AKIN & Speciesism WTF collaboration

We collaborated with Speciesism WTF for the first time in a series of outreach events with a human farrowing crate installation piece. From Birmingham to London to Cambridge, we carried out impactful events which drew in a big crowd. Our digital advertising van showed footage from pig farms in each city. We released a short film called Akin, where members of both teams entered a British pig farm to show the sorrowful reality of thousands of mother pigs imprisoned in crates.

Bus stop takeovers

We took over advertising spaces in multiple cities to show members of the public how tax money is funding slaughterhouses. This action came shortly after we released an investigation inside C&K Meats, which shone a light on the horrifying final moments faced by pigs before they entered gas chambers.

Animal Justice Project's first Open Rescue

In a first for Animal Justice Project, we carried out an open rescue of six hens – three from a 'free-range' RSPCA Assured farm and three from 'enriched' colony cages. We filmed them side by side, reflecting the minor differences each welfare level offers these hens; they all suffer in atrocious conditions and are killed at a fraction of their natural lifespan.

'Stud' board farm investigation release

We spotlighted an industry that had never been filmed in the UK: a boar semen farm under our new campaign Project Pig. With males trapped in indoor pens their entire lives, boredom and frustration were the norm. Workers were caught on camera stabbing pigs with a pitchfork or injecting them to increase their libido. Authorities are currently investigating our disturbing findings.

Supermarket sit-in for turkeys

We held our first-ever supermarket sit-in, holding space inside Tesco's freezer aisle next to the packaged dead turkeys. Activists sat strong for over an hour, not budging for the shop's security. The action was published in the local paper, reaching thousands more people with a message of compassion for animals just before Christmas.

Everything we've achieved together in 2024 has only been possible because of supporters like you. Every investigation, every campaign, and every action taken brings us closer to total liberation for animals. Your support has been invaluable – and now it can achieve twice as much.

This year, every donation you make will be matched pound-for-pound by a generous anonymous donor, doubling your power to fight speciesism and abolish exploitation. That means for every £1 you give, we receive £2. And, if you can, spreading that donation monthly helps us with a predictable income, allowing us to plan confidently.

Together, let's dismantle systems of oppression and build a future where no animal is treated as a commodity. Thank you for standing firm and fighting with us!

I am incredibly proud to have stood by you throughout 2024 and my team at Animal Justice Project. We couldn't have done this on our own. Together, alongside our fellow animals, we have a powerful, unified voice that can create significant positive change.

2025 will be another big year, and there will be many ways you can help.

As always,

For the animals.
