This blog explores ten creative ideas for using our stickers to reach people in their daily lives and encourage a compassionate mindset this Christmas.
As the holiday season approaches, we have an opportunity to raise awareness about animal rights in unexpected yet impactful ways. The streets will be full of people, and the shops too, so how can we reach them in a subtle way?
By placing stickers in high-visibility locations, from supermarkets to public spaces, activists can remind consumers of the value of all lives. These actions may seem simple, but they could make a profound difference if it stops a shopper from purchasing a turkey slaughtered in the name of a celebration:
1. Sticker turkeys in supermarkets: This way the consumer may think twice before purchasing because they will see the face of a turkey as they go to pick up a bird that has been slaughtered (and beheaded) for food. They will be met with the individual. This is the most direct stickering tactic, but there are more subtle ways consumers can be reached too.
2. Put them on Christmas cards and post: Not only will the postal workers see them, but every recipient of a card you give will. If you give out twenty cards at Christmas, that’s twenty people who would have seen the stickers. And it’s even higher if you’re posting them.
3. Stick them on park benches or bus stops: Put them in areas where people wait or sit. Their eyes will naturally wander over to our stickers, as they have time to spare, and they will have a few moments to take in our message.
4. Decorate community boards at coffee shops or libraries: Community boards in local coffee shops or libraries are often filled with holiday event flyers and would be a good spot for our message.
5. Distribute them with our flyers: You could host a leafleting action giving out our Be Their Christmas Flyers, to particularly receptive members of the public you can give them a sticker or offer them to children to get them engaged.
6. Place them near public Christmas tree displays: Stick them around public Christmas tree setups, especially in high-traffic areas, so holiday-goers will notice them.
7. Add them to restaurant Christmas menus: If you’re at a restaurant that serves animal products as well as plant-based options, sneak a sticker onto the menu or on the table as a reminder for others to consider plant-based choices.
8. Attach them to store shopping baskets or carts: Put them on handles or near seating areas in stores where they’ll be visible to shoppers. They will see the stickers just before they do their Christmas shop, and it could make them change their minds about what they buy.
9. Leave them in restrooms: This isn’t the most glamorous place to leave them, but you are guaranteed they will be seen!
10. Put them in cookbooks and magazines: When you’re in a supermarket or bookshop, you can leaf through the pages to find a recipe that includes ‘turkey meat.’ Cover them with our stickers! The chances are the customer won’t notice until they’ve already bought the book and they’ve taken it back home.
Each placement, from shopping carts to Christmas cards, is a chance to remind people of the value of all lives and encourage kinder choices this Christmas. Together, we have the opportunity to create change for Turkeys.
As always,
for the animals!
