During the Coronavirus pandemic, should we be calling on the largest animal producers in the UK to close their doors for good? It has been shown by the World Health Organisation (WHO) that over the last decade, three-quarters of newly emerging diseases have been zoonotic and from animals. Notably: SARS (Coronavirus), Avian flu, Swine flu and Ebola. These companies which make their profits from exploiting and killing animals are posing a huge threat to public human health. They need to be held accountable.
In the Netherlands, duck slaughter has come to a standstill as Covid-19 has made the sale of duck meat collapse. Animal Rights Netherlands are calling on the government to boycott supporting Tomassen Duck-To – Netherlands’ and North-West Europe’s largest and only duck slaughterhouse. A once dominating company is now at risk of collapse. Are these animal torture powerhouses really so vulnerable?
Our undercover investigation at Gressingham Duck highlighted the cruel and neglectful practices carried out by the UK’s largest duck producer. They represent more than half of the British duck industry; their standards reflect how British ducks are raised and killed. They are never able to go outdoors. They have no fresh air. More importantly, they never have access to open water, causing psychological distress and physical injuries. The ducks suffered immensely in these abhorrent conditions.
This is a crucial time. We must call on Gressingham Duck to END all duck exploitation and stop the killing! For the sake of the animals and to help prevent yet another zoonotic epidemic. Sheds with thousands of ducks inside with unsanitary conditions are a cesspool for diseases; duck farms have been brought down by Avian flu time and time again. The ones who suffer and are killed are the ducks.
Help us call for an end to duck abuse!
Thank you on behalf of ducks everywhere.
