October and November have been exceptionally busy and rewarding months for us at Animal Justice Project. At the start of October, we released a short film AKIN /a’kin/ in collaboration with SPECIESISM.WTF. The film highlights just how deeply connected we are to our fellow animals. We’re all individuals, we all feel pain, we all suffer, and we all deserve rights. The film is a powerful and emotional reminder of our shared sentience.
We also held a collaborative outreach event at Frieze London in Regent’s park where we challenged the public to consider their ingrained speciesism. The event was a fantastic success, and our message was amplified by our digital advertising van that showed our investigation content to the public.
Later in October, and for the very first time, we did an Open Rescue. We saved six hens from terrible conditions and gave them a chance at freedom at a sanctuary. These hens, three rescued from an RSPCA Assured “free-range” farm and three from "enriched" colony cages, showed no difference in health despite the supposed differences in welfare standards, proving how misleading these labels are. Now, Ginger, Babs, Bunty, Molly, Frizzle, and Mac are safe and experiencing real joy for the first time.
In November, we launched a door dropper action to raise awareness for the 9 million turkeys that are slaughtered in the UK every year. Almost 5000 of our Be Their Christmas Miracle flyers were sent out. Along with our front-facing content, we have also been planning and strategising for the years ahead along with navigating a couple of court cases.
Later in November, we launched a brand-new campaign...Project Pig! It will drive change through multi-faceted campaigning and push us forward towards a world where pigs are no longer seen as commodities but as sentient, compassionate individuals with the right to be free. We will combat the misleading marketing and propaganda spouted by the industry, with a mission to shift the narrative away from pig farming being seen as a necessity in society. We have LOTS to come from this campaign in 2025, so watch this space.
