On Sunday 1st November, we collaborated with a whole host of amazing vegan sanctuaries and organisations to celebrate World Vegan Day 2020. The online event was a celebration of veganism and animal liberation, which we were delighted to share with our dedicated supporters.
We’re pleased to announce that through the support of our generous ambassadors and our donors, we were able to raise a whopping £1700! We’d like to say a HUGE thank you to everybody who donated to fund our campaigns. We are also incredibly grateful to Freedom for Animals, Animal Rebellion, SPEAK, Brook Farm Animal Sanctuary, The Retreat Animal Rescue and Dean Farm Trust for taking the time out of their busy schedules to join us.
We are truly grateful to our vegan ambassadors, who kindly donated such wonderful prizes to our World Vegan Day raffle: Greener Beauty, Saorsa 1875, Pixal-Rose Hair Design, Vivi the Supervegan, Honestly Ombre, Peasholm Park Vegan B&B, Naomi Joy Art, Kate Louise Powell, ecoTree, Graphic Vegan, Heartcure, Unity Diner, Bee Vegan Bakery, Clemie’s Vegan Cakes, Prickly Pear and Styngvi Design. We would also like to say thank you to V-Ice Screams for their kind contribution.
In the height of the celebrations, our team took to the streets of Brighton to expose the connection between animal agriculture and global pandemics. Activists stood in formation in the city centre, prompting passers-by to question how a change in their diet could prevent future zoonotic diseases.
It comes as no surprise that the filthy and cramped conditions of the modern farm provide the perfect environment for disease. While the media has focused on the devastating loss of human lives, animal lives have also been lost in the millions due to slaughterhouse closures. Animal farming is a ticking time bomb, with infectious diseases breaking out in farms across the globe everyday. On Monday 2nd November, the BBC announced that 13,000 birds will be culled at a Cheshire broiler farm due to the discovery of avian flu. Animals will continue to fall prey to such diseases as long as they remain in these exploitative systems.
Despite a vast lack of resources, our government has gone to great lengths to bail out the meat, egg and dairy industries during the current pandemic. As we enter our second UK lockdown, will the government continue to treat the symptoms of the global pandemic while ignoring the obvious cause? Every pound that is wasted propping up animal agriculture sends us hurdling closer to the next outbreak.
The need for change is paramount. We will continue to expose the government’s support of these dangerous industries that threaten both human and non-human animal lives. You can help by making a donation today, or by ordering our ‘Cost of a Pandemic’ leaflets here. You can also help animals for free by downloading our EXPOSED posters here.
As always,
For the animals.
