I want to preface this email by saying a huge thank you to everyone who has supported our Action for Calves throughout August. With almost 20 events occurring across the last few weeks, dozens of activists have taken to the streets for mass action and solidarity against the dairy industry. Thank you to every person who attended an event, door-dropped our flyers, signed our online actions, shared our social media content, and generously donated to help fund these powerful actions.
Since launching our Dairy Still Kills undercover investigation in the spring of 2021, we have hosted multiple action days across the country, but none have been as impactful as this one. We have sent out 50 action packs and 67 door-dropper packs, totalling a momentous 25,650 pieces of literature.
Over the past three weeks, groups across the nation have hosted 18 Dairy Still Kills outreach events. From Derby to Glasgow to Colchester, activists have come together to speak up for calves and cows who are imprisoned by the dairy industry. We have received fantastic feedback on how well events went, with many also giving out tasty dairy-free samples.
In 2022, 39,363 calves less than one month old were killed in slaughterhouses, of which 2,115 were just seven to ten days old. We were the first animal rights organisation to expose the killing of young calves in abattoirs in the UK, labelling it 'dairy's NEW dirty secret'. Although this number has decreased since we launched in 2021, when 65,000 calves were killed in 2020, this decrease is likely due to exporting issues. When calves are killed in the UK, many of their bodies are exported to countries like Poland, where they are sold as 'white meat'. Many others are processed into kebabs and dog and cat food.
This is a largely hidden, dirty side of the dairy industry that they do not want us to talk about, so we are making it our mission not to rest until we see an end to the slaughtering of calves in slaughterhouses and the closing down of dairy farms. This abhorrent industry has no place in our modern society.
Calves are wonderfully inquisitive and caring beings and deserve the right to live a life of freedom. Through our undercover investigations, we have exposed the violent systems that calves are born into: dairy farms, dealer's yards, trading centres, markets, rearing and fattening farms, and the slaughterhouse. We will not stop campaigning until we see an end to these abhorrent places, and your donations will ensure that we can continue fighting so relentlessly. Through street outreach, investigative work, national media and breathtaking stunts, we are keeping this conversation in the public domain and educating more people every day.
Together, we will make change happen. If you share our vision of a world where every being is free, please continue your support of our investigations and campaigns. Your help is greatly appreciated and is already making a huge difference.
As always,
For the animals.
