Subject line: Demand Justice for ‘free-range’ birds!

To: James Evans, Owner, Pastures Poultry

Dear James Evans,

I am appalled to discover the horrific findings by Animal Justice Project at your farm and slaughterhouse which not only shows contempt for birds by workers under your watch, but also the flouting of the government's own slaughter guidelines.

From chickens being put into the scalding tank still flapping, to guinea fowl having their feathers ripped out and then flapping frantically on the shackle line, to turkeys being plucked under 90 seconds after being stunned. The violent handling and treatment of birds by you and your staff is completely and utterly unacceptable.

My heart goes out for the many birds you have abused inside your slaughterhouse and it must end. In one Animal Justice Project clip, live turkeys watched as their pen mates were hung upside, stunned and had their throats slit open. The psychological torment for these birds watching others being slaughtered and abused, in what can only be described as a blood bath, is incomprehensible.

I urge you to end animal cruelty today! Given the complex emotional intelligence of turkeys and other birds, and their clear ability to suffer and feel pain, please transform your farm and café into a plant-based outlet that is kind to animals, and better for the environment.

Yours sincerely,
