Today is World Plant Milk Day! Vegan milks have become increasingly popular and the trend shows no sign of stopping.
The rising levels of interest in the market for dairy-alternatives, is spurred mainly by consumers looking to change to a healthier life-style, such as vegan, lactose-free or dairy-free diets.
There are many misconceptions about needing dairy milk to sustain good health. However research over the past 20 years has suggested otherwise. For example, it is believed that cows milk is the best or only source of calcium, this is not true. High amounts of calcium can be found in almonds, tofu and leafy vegetables.
Around 20% of cows in the UK never see grass for their whole lives, and the others spend most of their lives in sheds due to this cruel industry.
